PRESENTATION OF THE LIBRO 'The sound bands to fire the days', by José Carlos Fernández Moscoso

WEDNESDAY, 23 OCTOBER at 19: 00 H in the House of Culture Multiple-Use Room
(Free entry until complete capacity)

Since his use of reason, José Carlos Fernández Moscoso has written. It is almost thirty-five years of work to make paper or to radio their thoughts, to present their criteria in different opinion formats or to share all their knowledge about music or cinema.

'The sound bands to fire the days' has been a four-year job. A process that originated in the brief texts he wrote when the COVID19 pandemic came. And the day came when he decided to select the sound bands according to his roles in the movies and to translate all the information he had accumulated over the years into a book.

What stands out from the work is that it has a range of publications on film music, sound bands and melodies. It's a book that turns theory into practice. In addition to the original that it turns out that the role of music is analyzed in different film scenes describing the narrative character they have. The author points out that "it is not a dictionary, even if it contains more than 500 names related to cinema and music."

'The sound bands to fire the days' are aimed at a wide audience, from those who value the knowledge that it brings to the author to those who want to begin to value the meaning and role of music on the big screen, on television or even on the radio.

What inspired José Carlos Fernández to write was a sense of claim. On the one hand, the interest in giving music the value it really has and on the other, in wanting to share the knowledge with which it counts. And although he has already released them throughout his career, they are "now in a record" in book format, which he himself signs.

Through almost 280 pages the reader is immersed in an adventure. And it's no use if you read it quickly, you have to get in, get packed, get in between your pages. It is not an academic work, nor is it intended to be able to perform the musical composition in a professional way in the future. He just wants to teach how musicians play with all the sound elements to give excellence to what is seen on the other side of the screen.

SINOPSIS

The sound bands to fire the days is an exciting journey through those moments of the films that, throughout our lives, have left us a mark thanks not only to the image, but to what we perceive auditively. Based on the premise of the importance of film music as a creative rather than a technical contribution, not always recognized as it deserves, the 76 headings described in the book are examples of sequences of the history of cinema in which the sound bands have played a crucial role from the narrative point of view, constituting a descriptive element of first order far beyond the mere accompaniment of the images, as is wrongly assumed. Cronologically selected by dates of relevance related to the cinema (birth or obituary of composers, but also the days of premiere of the films or historical events reflected on the large screen), the author of the book not only explains the role of music in concrete sequences so that the spectator can be sensitive to what is happening or receive information about protagonists or locations, but also we can view those moments thanks to the insertion of QR codes at the end of each review, which gives us the opportunity to use our terminals and to see how Jerry Goldsmith was able to describe himself masterfully with his music to John Rambu in the first image of the composer (in the film).

The sound bands to fire the days is not an academic work nor is it intended to explore the technique used to compose each compressed sound band. His task is to reveal to the reader the emotional codes used by each composer to fulfill the wonderful task of directly reaching the sensibility of the viewer; to say more prosaically, how musicians play with all the sound elements that inspire the images to give excellence to what our eyes see. And that important work is the product of artistic creators, something far beyond a mere technical work.
