In Algeria, the short film is a moment of tension between cultural aspirations and structural constraints. Although the national film industry is going through decades of decline after its flowering in the 1970s, emerging artists continue to produce independent short films with scarce resources and self-financing. For example, the Algerian short film Nya, led by Imane Ayadi, recently won the Best Fiction Short film award at the Imedghassen festival. In addition, in the African short film competitions, Algeria has already been recognized: Algerian works have been awarded in the CANEX Short 2025 competition. To support this effervescence, the Timimoun International Short Film Festival, which in its first edition aims to give space to African short films (fiction, documentary, animation) and promote its dissemination beyond the country.
