DIRECTORATE PRICE - NACHO VIGALONDO

Ignacio "Nacho" Vigalondo Palacios, born on 6 April 1977 in Cabezón de la Sal (Cantabria, Spain), is an exceptional, multifaceted and uncomplex filmmaker that has been made a prominent place in both Spanish and international cinema. With a work that challenges genres (science fiction, thriller, comedy, fantastic drama...), Vigalondo has shown that popular cinema can also be smart, risky and full of nuances.

Initially formed in Audiovisual Communication at the University of the Basque Country, he soon left the academic path to pursue a more personal and experimental path. From his first steps as a screenwriter and director of short films, his talent emerged with an unusual force: his work 7: 35 a.m. was nominated to the Oscar for Best Short in 2004, an extraordinary achievement for an emerging director.

With his feature film The chronicles (2007), Vigalondo signed one of the most important milestones of Spanish fantastic cinema: an intricate plot of temporary loops that consolidated it as a fresh, rigorous voice with a sense of humor. Throughout his career he has directed titles as different as External (a comedy with a science fiction twist), Open Windows, Colossal (starring Anne Hathaway), and more recently Daniela Foreverwho reflects on duel, lucid dreams and memory.

Vigalondo has been able to combine authorship and accessibility: his films exhibit narrative cunning, ingenious use of gender, and a bold visual style. In interviews it reveals that each project works as if it were the last, leaving aside purely commercial ambitions to turn to the essentials of history. Its versatility also extends to the world of television, video clips and pop culture, actively contributing to the dialogue between contemporary cinema and media.

As a creator, Nacho Vigalondo embodies the figure of the modern filmmaker: bold, restless and versatile. It has shaped a recognizable style, where the fantastic exists at the service of the human, and where each narrative turn is also a reflection on our limitations, desires and fears. In this tribute we celebrate not only his film, but his courage to break barriers, to innovate without concessions and to inspire new generations with an original, provocative and deeply cinematographic look.
