One of the most international Andalusian filmmakers of its generation, able to move with the same release between the musical documentary, the fiction feature film and the award-winning short film at festivals around the world. Formed in Cadiz, Sweden, Cuba and the United States, where he completed an MFA in cinema between New York and Los Angeles, his career has been marked by a constant curiosity and a deeply humanist look.

Author of short films acclaimed as Voltereta or Bla Bla Bla (nominated for the Goya), has left an indelible print on the field of the musical documentary with titles like The longest way, Shrimp: Flamenco and Revolution, Sanz: what I was is what I am or Heroes: Silence and Rock & Rollworks that combine rigor, emotion and a unique approach to the great icons of Spanish music.

In 2022 he made the leap to fiction with The Universe of Oliver, consolidating itself as a versatile and poetic narrator, and in 2024 it premiered Is it the enemy? The Gila movie, reaffirming its commitment to humor and cultural memory.

In international festivals and distinguished with prizes that highlight both his talent and his social commitment, Alexis Morante embodies the figure of the restless and contemporary creator who understands cinema as a language of peace, memory and future. A filmmaker who has been able to build bridges between cultures and generations, always carrying with him the Andalusian root and a universal vocation.

In «Is it the enemy? The Gila movie»Alexis Morante pays a tribute to the great Miguel Gila who traveled his years in the Civil War, who, at the same time and forced by a convulsed Spain, was forced to join the Republican side. There he survived the battles, the hunger, the prison and that failed shooting he always spoke of.

The film is based on «The book of Gila. Comic anthrology of work and life». His director, Alexis Morante, explains that «The germ of the film are those memories. When you read them, you realize how much he suffered in the war. And when you see that he turned that tragedy into humor, that's where you realize he was a unique character.».
